The current year is 2025. It's been ten years since the Human Revolt against Combine rule, led by the esteemed Dr. Gordon Freeman, which claimed many lives and saw the fall of City Seventeen, and eventually the fall of the Combine Empire on Earth. Europe has been in political turmoil ever since, with constant warring between newly founded nations and states. For the whole of the fifteen years after the war, hundreds of small towns turned against each-other fighting for land and power. Many had the dream of uniting Europe, and eventually the world.

Out of the warring emerged two blocs, the Lambda based in their original territories of Eastern and Southern Europe and the United Nations.

It's been fifteen years since Doctor Gordon Freeman mysteriously turned up in a trainstation in the former Combine capitol of City Seventeen (Kyiv, Ukraine), and fifteen years since he inspired thousands of men and women to take up arms to fight against the Combine. The revolution, like any other in history, was a bloody one filled with much sacrifice. On both sides. The siege of City Seventeen by Lambda forces lasted just a few weeks, and it's outcome was utterly devastating. The site of the former city of Kyiv is now a crater, and it in lay the ashes of thousands. Both Union and rebel forces.

With the citadel and the "capitol of Earth" destroyed, the fighting carried on into the countryside of Ukraine and Belarus. Lambda regrouped itself back at it's White Forest Base on the Ukraine/Belarus border, with a massive Combine attack on the way it seemed to be the end of the revolution. However, the derailed Gordon Freeman and his companion, Alyx Vance managed to reach White Forest just in time to aide in the siege and succesfully stop the Combine attack in it's tracks - giving the science division of the Lambda enough time to launch their rocket - and to ultimately stop the super portal.

However, the victory sooned turned bitter, as two Combine advisors ("slugs") ambushed an unsuspecting trio of Gordon Freeman, Alyx Vance and her father - Eli - who was unfortunately killed. After just a few moments of mourning, the two set back off on their journey - this time to the source of Mossman's transmission, and to the infamously missing "Borealis".

It is unknown what exactly happened on the search, as Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance were never seen again. However, whatever they did - it was sure to have been a victory. However Pyrrhic it may have been.

Despite the crushing victory dealt to Combine forces, fighting still continued - worldwide. However, Combine patrols and attacks slowly phased out by the fifth year after the Uprising and it was said that the Lambda had a direct role in exterminating them. After the Combine were out of the way, the alliances of rebel factions and the remaining Combine cities slowly phased into violence. With more-or-less everyone competing with eachother for military might, land and prestige. After roughly ten years of constant warring, two main power blocs emerged in Europe. The Lambda and her allied Baltic States - and the infamous United Nations, whom's military prowess has been the whispers of wives and the talk of men drinking in bars.
