"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
This is a quote from a poem that is embedded into the Statue of Liberty. America is built on immigrants. While I agree, yes anyone seeking to enter this country should do so legally. However, one can not ignore the fact that the system we've created to do so is hilariously bad. If I could just sign some papers, answer some questions, and be allowed to enter the U.S., I'd do that over trudging through the desert hiding and running away from boarder patrol, hiding in the gas tank of a truck, or riding in a POS dingy and capsizing in the ocean. Most people agree, a large amount of Mexico, and a lot of Central America suck. Several countries like Venezuela are struggling to stay out of famine and to keep the lights on.
It isn't just with our Southern neighbors either. Immigration on a whole is a bureaucratic nightmare, which causes America to turn it's back on those who fought with, and for us in the Middle East. Several cases of interpreters who walked along side American soldiers, who are now being hunted down by terrorist groups, can't get into the country they served, because of miles and miles of useless red-tape.
