Typically, Recon teams operate in groups of two (a spotter and a sniper) small man teams that are extremely mobile, and able to adjust their position to provide a guardian angel aspect from long ranges in support of the primary grunt forces down below. To be effective, they need to have a weapon that provides them with a more clear view of the battlefield, as well as a more detailed on. A Recon team sent out to eliminate enemy forces could do so with deadly efficiency. Seeing as how the forces will not see the attack coming, and the only counter to a sniper is another sniper, the duo could cause grave havoc to enemy forces before the initial engagement even begins. This leads me to my suggestion;
The M24A2/A3 sniper weapon system. It's a scoped, bolt-action, long range rifle that weighs roughly 12 pounds (5.5kg), giving them the mobility they require to squeeze into tight positions. Provided it's the A3 variant, the M24 can fire a deadly .338 Lapua Magnum round, with an exit muzzle velocity of over 2,500 feet per second (800~ m/s). It's effective range can reach out to 1,500 meters (1,600 yards) and still be able to maintain a killing velocity.
The Reconnaissance team is not only a combat-related entity. It can be utilized as well as the title entails; for Recon. Being sent forward, they are able to used their scopes and various observation skills to provide an early look into the situation present on the battlefield, giving the command and fellow troops the insightful intel needed to make proper placement, and necessary troop placement/movement. Even not being sent before a battle, they have the ability to stalk the enemy for days, collecting any sort of essential information that the commander requires in knowing exactly what the enemy is doing. Once again, they cannot do this without a properly scoped weapon.
I think, and so far it's been affirmed(?) that there will be at least one Recon team (Janus Sobieski, and Durzo Blint) active in this cell of Lambda. Given the SKS, we don't have the scoped aspect, which cripples us to using the same range as a basic infantryman. I believe that DMR should keep the SKS, simply as a middle man between close range, and long range combat, and that the Reconnaissance teams should be given the M24 to provide even deadlier support from further back on the battlefield.
Seeing as how this is primarily a staff decision, hopefully I was able to persuade you into at least highly considering this weapon to add to our arsenal. To me, it's a no-brainer. Thank you for your time. Non-staff, feel free to weigh in.
TL;DR- Give a DMR a smaller, more specialized branch. This Reconnaissance branch is able to provide intel, as well as greater effectiveness at greater ranges in combat. We would be giving them a separate weapon system (M24A3), as well as a different mission on the battlefield entirely.
